Joey Rickard, This Song’s For You

“I kind of kept looking around at teammates to get the OK [for a curtain call], and what should I do and I finally look at J.J. [Hardy], and he just pointed up and he was like, I’ve got to do it.”

Your Baltimore Orioles (3-0) have opened their 2016 campaign with a sweep of the Minnesota Twins thanks to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory on Thursday night.

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched seven strong innings for the win, Dylan Bundy pitched a scoreless frame, Darren O’Day got the save, Manny Machado homered, and Jonathan Schoop delivered a clutch RBI single. But let’s face it, the story right now is Rule 5 Hero Joey Rickard.

Rickard, your 2015 Montgomery Biscuits Base Runner of the Year, added to his own growing legend in Baltimore with his first big league home run in the eighth inning on Thursday. He followed it up with a curtain call.

Here’s to you, Joey.
