Today in Orioles History: Mike Mussina’s Second Straight Complete-Game Shutout

Mike Mussina went the distance versus the Minnesota Twins without allowing a run to Mike Mussina Cardclaim a 3-0 road victory on this day in Orioles history, May 5, 1993. It is Mussina’s second consecutive complete-game shutout making him the first pitcher to do that since Jim Palmer in 1982.

Mussina also blanked the Twins in a complete-game effort in his previous outing, an 11-0 O’s victory on April 29, 1993. He finished the 1993 season with three complete games.

Mussina, who debuted with the Orioles in 1991, had at least one complete game every year until the final two seasons of his career in 2007 and 2008. He had a career-best eight complete games in 1992 and seven complete games in 1995, when he matched his own feat with back-to-back complete-game shutouts. No Orioles pitcher has done it since.
